My knock knee fix- practice Yoga Asanas and find a cure



Knock-knee is an anatomical abnormality due to certain muscles becoming hyperactive, while some remain inactive. It results in poor knee alignment. Knock-knee also strains the soft tissue of the inner knee. It has become a common issue in our society.

Childhood knock knees usually get healed with growth on their own. Yet, in some cases due to improper development of bones causes permanent Knock knees. So, loosening up the muscle with hip opening and ligament stretches will improve the condition. Hence, my knock knee fix is to practice yoga Asanas.

Supta Padangusthasana is a very beneficial pose. Sit in staff pose or Dandasana facing wall. Keep a yoga belt as your prop. Let the sole touch the wall with toes pointing upward. Lower your back, supporting the torso on your palms. Rest your head on the mat. Then bend your right knee and bring it to your chest. Loop your prop around the sole, then hold each end. It opens your chest and keeps your breathing regular. Stay in this position for 20-30 seconds. Repeat the same with the other foot.

How to Correct Knock Knees

You can also practice the utthita Hasta Padangusthasana pose. Stand in mountain pose (Tadasana) against a wall. Lift the foot and grab hold of the big toe with the first two fingers and thumb. Bring the hand to the hip. Exhale and stretch the leg up in front of you, pulling the toes back. Repeat with the other side. The warrior pose or Virabhadrasana targets the whole body parts. Keep one of your feet directly under your knee. Kneel with the other knee on the floor. Repeat on the other side.

The half-moon pose or Ardha Chandrasana improves collaboration and body mechanism responses. In this asana, the body takes the shape of a half-moon. Keep your arm stretched up while the back of your hand touches the wall. Hold the pose for 20 seconds. Repeat on the other side. Trikonasana, or lateral bending pose, stretches and strengthens your leg muscles and knees.

It will improve the condition of knock knees. However, you will not notice results overnight. With perseverance and practicing my knock-knee-fix yoga asanas, you will start seeing improvement. It will not only improve your knees but your entire body posture.
